United Way of Summit County --
'What We Do'
Our mission is to improve lives in our community by mobilizing community assets -- money, volunteers, and facilities. This means we work in partnership with our donors and with community agencies to help individuals and families achieve sustainable economic self sufficiency and the highest possible quality of life. Every person and family that we can help grow stronger makes Summit County a better place for all to live, work and raise a family!

Our organization has been in existence since 1918, and in those 89 years, we have raised and contributed more than $400 Million to those in need in our community. We are one of the more than 1,300 United Ways across the country and around the world, each with its own local governing board and bylaws.

Our coverage area is Summit County, Ohio, an urban county in the northeast part of the state with a population of more than 542,000 people. The county seat and largest city is Akron, home of the All-American Soap Box Derby, The National Inventors Hall of Fame, and much of the world's research on the science of Polymers.
